The Briar Patch Farm & Nursery
John and I bought this property in 1979. At the time it was a horse farm with a small apple orchard. We were living in Halifax... John had a landscaping company and I was working for the government. After a year, we moved here permanently but John continued to travel to Halifax to landscape. In 1981, we built our sales building and our first greenhouse. Several years later we added a second greenhouse when we started growing lowbush blueberries from seed. We now have those two heated greenhouses, five large unheated greenhouses, and two smaller ones. In the beginning we grew vegetables as well as greenhouse and nursery crops and we also had the small orchard. After a few years, we cut down the orchard and concentrated on nursery stock. There is now approximately 15 acres of nursery stock on the property.
We also purchased two properties adjacent to ours to give us more parking and a larger area for display gardens. We have an area with nine perennials beds as well as several large shrub beds with a variety of plant material. A stroll through these areas will show you what these plants will look like in your garden.
We sell a complete line of nursery stock - greenhouse annuals, perennials, evergreens, broadleaf evergreens, trees, flowering shrubs, vines, fertilizers, soils, and some other gardening supplies. We are particularly interested in hostas, evergreens, broadleaf evergreens and unusual items. We do not have everything in large quantities, so if you are looking for a particular item it is wise to call or email to check in availability.
We hope you will visit our nursery and our gardens.
